To try to deal with a problem or difficult task, or to physically stop someone in sports by knocking or grabbing them to prevent their progress.

Usage & Nuances

Informal and common in both business ("tackle a problem") and sports (especially football/soccer and rugby — "make a tackle"). In sports, only use for a deliberate action to stop an opponent, not for casual contact. 'Tackle' can also be a noun for the act itself ("a good tackle").
