Definition
Describes an animal with mange (a skin disease causing hair loss), or something dirty, shabby, and neglected. Often used for animals, but can also describe places or things that look very worn-out.

Usually negative and informal. Common for scruffy dogs or cats, and metaphorically for rundown places or objects. Not polite to use for people; 'mangy old...' is a frequent phrase. Sometimes suggests pity in addition to disgust.
