leg

word

/ˈɫɛɡ/
leg
/lˈɛɡ/
leg

Definition

A leg is one of the body parts you use to stand, walk, and run. It can also mean a similar part of an animal, one section of a trip or race, or the part of pants that covers the leg.

Usage & Nuances

Most often, 'leg' means the human body part. For animals, 'leg' is also common; 'paw' is only for the foot. Other useful patterns are 'break your leg' (the injury, or as a good-luck phrase in theater), 'the last leg of the trip', and 'pants leg'/'trouser leg'. Avoid using it for the whole foot-and-leg area when 'foot' is more precise.
