To put a tube into someone's airway (usually the windpipe) to help them breathe, often done during surgery or in emergencies.

Usage & Nuances

Used almost exclusively in medical contexts, especially hospitals. Usually performed by doctors or paramedics. Opposite: 'extubate' (remove the tube). Common collocation: 'to intubate a patient'. Not used for non-medical tubes.
