鼻でにおいをかぐ行為や、何かを探るような行動を指します。時に秘密を探ることも表します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に犬など動物が使う場合が多いですが、人にも使えます。「sniffing around」は何かを詮索する意味。単なる「smell」とは違い意図的な行動を表します。
