अक्सर इसका प्रयोग 'is presumed' जैसे वाक्य में (passive voice) होता है। यह आमतौर पर कानूनी, औपचारिक या समाचार संदर्भों में आता है जब तथ्य पूरी तरह से पुष्ट नहीं हैं। 'assumed' जैसा है, पर थोड़ा अधिक औपचारिक। सामान्य वाक्यांश: 'presumed dead', 'presumed innocent'।
