“ho” in Japanese

Definition

古い表現の掛け声で、歌やリズムを取るとき、または芝居で使われます。現代の日常会話ではほとんど使われません。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「yo-ho-ho」や「land ho!」のような決まり文句で使われます。普段の会話には不向きで、演劇やふざけた場面向きです。

Examples

The sailors shouted, "Ho!" from the ship.

船乗りたちは船から「**ホー**！」と叫んだ。

In the song, they sing "yo-ho-ho."

歌の中で「ヨー**ホー**ホー」と歌っています。

The actor said "Ho!" in a loud voice.
