Genellikle 'get ahold of' ifadesinde biriyle iletişime geçmek anlamında kullanılır. Nadiren bir şeyi tutmak anlamına da gelir.

Amerikan İngilizcesinde çok yaygındır ve gayri resmi konuşmalarda geçer. Resmiyette 'reach' tercih edilir. Fiziksel anlamında daha az kullanılır.

I can't get ahold of my brother today.
