A conversation between two or more people, or the written script of such a conversation, especially in books, movies, or plays.

Usage & Nuances

Mostly formal or neutral; 'dialogue' is used in arts (script/dialogue in movies), discussions between groups ('open dialogue'), and sometimes as a verb ('to dialogue'). Not the same as 'monologue' (one person speaking).
