Definition

ふりや偽りとは、本当ではないのに本当のように装う態度や言動のこと。多くの場合、本心や本当の状況を隠すために使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマルな場面や否定的な文脈で使われやすく、意図的な偽り、ずるさのニュアンスを持つ。『under the pretense of』は「～のふりをして」、名詞なので動詞『pretend』とは異なる。
