사실이 아닌 것을 마치 사실인 것처럼 행동하거나, 상상하거나, 속이기 위해 그렇게 하는 것. 실제로 그렇지 않은 것을 주장하는 뜻도 있음.

Usage Notes (Korean)

'pretend to + 동사', 'pretend that + 절' 형태로 자주 쓰임. 아이들의 상상 놀이('의사인 척하다')나 속이려는 행동('관심 있는 척하다')에 모두 사용. 'intend'(의도하다)와 혼동하지 않기.
