2本の取っ手と先端を持つ工具で、小さい物やワイヤーをつかんだり、曲げたり、切ったりするために使います。

英語では常に複数形で使われます（scissorsのように）。'a pair of pliers' や 'needle-nose pliers' などの表現で使われます。物をつかむ・切る用途が主で、叩くやネジ締めには使いません。
