Definition

隠喩は、あるものを別のものに直接たとえて表現し、その共通点を示す表現技法です。

文学や日常会話でよく使われます。「like」「as」のような比較語は使わず、'simile'（直喩）とは違います。詩や物語で頻出し、'analogy'や'symbol'と混同しないよう注意。
