屋根や道路の端にある雨水を流すための細長い溝。比喩的に、最も汚い場所や困難な状況を指すこともあります。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

通常は雨水の排水用を指します。『in the gutter』は困難や貧しい状態を表します。ボウリングではガター部分を指します。
