أقوى من 'silliness' (التي قد تكون خفيفة) لكن ألطف من 'stupidity' (التي تبدو أقسى وأكثر إهانة). غالباً ما تُستخدم بنبرة خيبة أمل أو إحباط وليس غضب. تعبيرات شائعة: 'sheer foolishness'، 'act of foolishness'.
