持っている情報をもとに、正確な数字が分からなくても、おおよその数や金額を計算したり推測したりすること。

「estimate」は動詞（例：'costをestimateする'）や名詞（例：'estimateをもらう'）としてよく使われ、ビジネスや日常会話で金額・人数・時間などを表す時に使う。あまり詳しい根拠がない「guess」や、詳しい調査「evaluate」とは異なるニュアンス。
