洪水を防ぐために川や海岸沿いに作られる厚い土手や堤防のことです。特に低地で使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「堤防」が一般的です。地質学的な意味では「ダイク」と言いますが、日常ではほとんど使いません。「sea dyke」は「海の堤防」などの形になります。
