ほこり払いは、布やブラシで表面のほこりを拭き取ることです。また、粉状のものが薄くかかっている状態も指します。

掃除の際に使う表現ですが、雪や粉砂糖などの「薄くかかった状態」にも使われます。「do the dusting」＝家事としてのほこり取り。
