Definition

欠陥とは、ものが正しく機能しなかったり、期待されるほど良くない原因となる、不完全または問題のある部分のことです。物・製品・人の性格にも使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

“Defect”は主に製品や機械、法的・医療分野で使う正式・技術的な語です。「性格の欠点」には“fault”や“flaw”が日常的です。動詞（国・組織から離反）の意味は別物で稀です。
