Gündelik konuşmada kullanılmaz, daha çok belge, rapor veya resmi sözleşmelerde çıkar. “Merhum kişi”, “vefat eden” şeklinde isimden önce ya da “mirasçılar, merhumun çocukları” gibi hukuki kavramlarda geçer.
