学部長は大学や学部などで特定の分野や学生グループを担当する責任者です。分野の第一人者や長老的存在も指す場合があります。

主に大学などの組織で使われます。「the dean of students」は学生担当の学部長。「the dean of ～」で業界の重鎮も指します。
