人が生まれながらにして属する社会的な身分や階級。特にインドなど南アジアの伝統的な身分制度を指すことが多い。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に「カースト制度」としてインドの伝統的な社会階層を指します。単なる社会的「クラス」や「階層」には使いません。比喩的に厳格な階層・区分を表す場合にも使われます。
