何かを目の当たりにする、注意深く見るという意味で、古風または文学的な表現です。驚きや荘厳さを伴うことが多いです。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

文学作品や聖書などで使われることが多く、日常会話ではほとんど使いません。「behold the…」「lo and behold」という表現が典型的です。
