Definition

পুলিশ কারো অপরাধের সন্দেহে তাকে আইনি হেফাজতে নিলে তা গ্রেফতার করা বলে। এছাড়াও, কোনো কিছুর অগ্রগতি বা গতি থামানোতেও ব্যবহার হয়।

Usage Notes (Bengali)

আইন বা পুলিশের প্রসঙ্গে সবচেয়ে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়: 'arrest a suspect', 'be under arrest', 'make an arrest'। সাধারণ 'ধরা' বা 'থামানো' থেকে অনেক বেশি আনুষ্ঠানিক। 'cardiac arrest' বা 'arrested development'-এর মতো বাক্যে হঠাৎ থেমে যাওয়া বোঝায়।
