Arrestar o detener a alguien es ponerlo legalmente bajo custodia policial porque se sospecha que cometió un delito. También puede significar detener un proceso o movimiento, pero el sentido policial es el más común.

Se usa sobre todo en contextos policiales y legales: 'arrest a suspect', 'be under arrest', 'make an arrest'. Es más oficial y más fuerte que 'stop' o 'catch'. En lenguaje formal o médico también aparece en expresiones como 'cardiac arrest' o 'arrested development', donde significa una interrupción brusca.
