Definition

誰かと知り合いとは、深い友人ではないが少し知っている関係です。また、何かについて少し知識や経験がある場合にも使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「acquainted with」はフォーマルな場や丁寧な会話でよく使い、深い関係ではなく軽い知り合いを指します。「familiar」や「friend」とは違います。
