何かを軽くたたくこと、特に指で、相手の注意を引くときや誰かがいるか確かめるときに使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に“door”、“window”、“glass”などとよく使います。軽く何度もたたくイメージで、「knock」よりも柔らかい印象。比喩的に注意を引く意味にも使われます。
