অফিশিয়াল নয়, জিনিস বা ধারণা আলাদা করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। 'sift out the best' বা 'sift out the errors' এর মতো বাক্যে বেশি ব্যবহৃত, ধাপে ধাপে বাছাই বোঝায়।
