Definition

걸레나 대걸레로 액체 등을 닦아내는 것. 비유적으로는 남은 일이나 문제, 적 등을 다 처리한다는 뜻으로도 쓰인다.

일상적인 청소뿐 아니라, 끝내다/정리하다 같은 비유적 의미로도 흔히 사용된다. 특히 뉴스, 스포츠, 군사 용어('mop up operation')에서 많이 쓰인다.
