Bir sesin, sesin veya konuşma tarzının niteliğini ifade eder. Aynı zamanda bir rengin tonu veya bir yazının, konuşmanın ya da durumun genel havası anlamına da gelir.

'tone of voice' tavır ve tutumu gösterir, ses yüksekliğiyle karıştırmayın. 'skin tone', 'set the tone', 'formal tone', 'friendly tone' ifadelerinde yaygındır.
