「ストローク」は脳に血液が行かなくなる深刻な病気のことや、手でなでる動作、水泳の泳法、一筆や一画など様々な意味があります。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

医療の場面では「脳卒中を起こす」と使います。ペットの場合、イギリス英語は「stroke（なでる）」を使い、アメリカ英語では「pet」が多いです。水泳の泳法では「バタフライストローク」などの形で用いられます。
