特にドアや窓、箱などを開いていない状態にすること。仕事や運営などを一時的または永久的にやめる意味でも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

日常会話や文章でよく使われます。'shut down' は完全に停止する意味、'shut up' は失礼な感じで黙るよう指示するときに使います。物理的に閉めるときや、比喩的に止める時にも使います。
