Definition

保安官は、地域やカウンティで法律の執行を担当する選挙または任命で選ばれる役人です。アメリカでよく使われる言葉で、場合によっては国ごとに役割が異なります。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にアメリカ英語で地方の治安責任者を指します。「deputy sheriff」で副保安官。西部劇や歴史作品でもよく登場します。警察官とは異なる役割です。
