誰かや何かを残酷に馬鹿にしたり、からかったりすること。名詞としては、人や物事を嘲る行為を指す。

よりフォーマルまたは書き言葉で使われ、『嘲笑の的』『嘲笑にさらす』などの表現で使われることが多い。日常会話では「からかう」「ばかにする」がよく使われる。
