かつては発達の遅れを表す医学用語として使われていましたが、現代では人に対して使うととても差別的です。技術用語では「遅れた」「遅延した」という意味で使われることもあります。

人に対しては絶対に使わないようにしましょう。技術用語や「flame-retardant」など特定の表現のときのみ許容されます。
