「必要な」とは、ある目的や結果、状況のために絶対になくてはならないことを指します。

「必要な」は「helpful」や「useful」より強い意味ですが、「essential」より柔らかい場合があります。「必要なら（if necessary）」や「必要に応じて（as necessary）」の形でもよく使われます。日常会話では「必要がある」「〜なければならない」とも言います。
