大切な人やものを失って深い悲しみを感じること。特に死など取り返しのつかない別れに使う表現。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
『哀しむ』『嘆く』は深い悲しみを長く感じている時に使う表現です。死など本当に大きな喪失に対して使われ、単なる「悲しい」よりフォーマルです。『弔いの服を着る（in mourning）』『〜の喪に服す（mourn the loss of）』もよく使います。
