الشعور بحزن عميق على فقدان، خاصة وفاة شخص. يُستخدم أيضًا للحزن على فقدان أي شيء ذي قيمة — علاقة، نمط حياة، حقبة.

أكثر رسمية وعمقًا من "be sad about". "Mourn" يشير إلى فترة حزن مستمرة، وليس مجرد شعور لحظي. عبارات شائعة: "mourn the loss of"، "in mourning" (ارتداء الأسود، مراعاة طقوس الحداد). يمكن أن يكون متعديًا ("mourn someone") أو لازمًا ("she mourns alone").
