Definition

急に不安定に揺れたり、前や横にガクッと動いたりすること。また、突然の大きな変化や動きも指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

やや文学的な表現。乗り物や人の突然の動き、または計画や気持ちの急な変化に使う。「the car lurched forward」「his heart lurched」など。"lurk"（隠れる）とは別語。

The boat suddenly lurched to the left.
