層は、物の上に重ねられたり、覆われている一枚の部分や段階を指します。衣服や材料、構造の一部などに使われます。

科学や日常会話の両方で使われます。「a layer of paint（ペンキの層）」「layer of clothes（服の重ね着）」などに多用。'level'（レベル）とは異なります。
