ある土地に古くから根付いている人々、動植物、文化などを表します。外から来たものではなく、その場所が起源である場合に使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

“indigenous peoples”、“indigenous languages”のように主にフォーマル・学術的・敬意を込めた文脈で使います。歴史や文化の側面を強調したい時は“native”より適切です。一般的に国内出身者には使いません。
