'Dictating' का प्रयोग जब आप बोलकर किसी को लिखने के लिए कहते हैं या जब आप दूसरों पर आदेश या नियंत्रण थोपते हैं, दोनों के लिए होता है। अधिकतर यह नकारात्मक रूप से भी इस्तेमाल होता है (जैसे बहुत हुक्म चलाना)। 'Dictating a letter' और 'dictating orders' आम जोड़े हैं।
