人や物事、状況に近づかないようにしたり、何かをしないように努めること。不都合や危険、気まずさを避けるために行動することが多い。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「avoid」は後ろに名詞や動詞のing形が続きます（例：'avoid doing'）。人や話題、間違い、危険、責任などを避けるとき使います。'avoid to do' は誤りです。
