조금 격식 있거나 감정적인 상황에서 자주 사용된다. 'show affection', 'feel affection for', 'signs of affection'와 같은 표현에 주의. 'like'보다 더 따뜻하고 감정이 깊지만, 연인 간 'love'보다 덜 강렬하다.
