펼치다펴다

Definition

말려 있거나 접혀 있는 것을 완전히 펼치거나 드러내는 것. 비유적으로는 무언가를 드러내거나 공개하는 데에도 사용된다.

주로 깃발, 돛, 현수막 등에 쓰이고, 가능성 등을 비유적으로 표현할 때도 쓴다. 일상적인 '열다'와는 달리 문어체나 문학적 뉘앙스가 있다.

The sailors unfurled the sails.

선원들이 돛을 **펼쳤다**.

They unfurled the flag at sunrise.

그들은 해 뜰 무렵에 깃발을 **펼쳤다**.

The banner was unfurled over the stage.
