Definition

味方だった人に対して敵意を持つようになったり、批判的な態度になること。

人間関係や集団の中で裏切りや失望を含む場合に使われる。「友達が〜に背いた」「世論が〜に敵対的になった」など。物理的な向きを変える意味では使わない。

After the argument, his friends turned against him.

けんかの後、彼の友達は彼に**背いた**。
