野生動物や気性の荒いものをおとなしくし、従順にするためのプロセス。人の感情や行動にも比喩的に使われることがある。

結果よりもプロセスを指す場合が多いので、'tame'（形容詞）とは区別。'taming a lion'や感情・状況にも比喩的に使う。'training'よりも改まった響きで、制御するニュアンスが強い。
