Definition

誰かの提案や招待、挑戦を受け入れて新しいことを始めることを表します。たいてい他人のすすめに応じて始める場合に使います。

会話でよく使われ、誰かの提案やお誘い、チャレンジを「受けてみる」ときに使います。単に「take up」とはニュアンスが異なり、相手の具体的な提案に応じる場合が多いです。

I decided to take one up after my friend suggested painting.
