皮膚のすぐ下に位置する、または皮膚の下に施されること。注射や組織など、医学用語で使われる。

主に医学や科学の文脈で使われる語です。「subcutaneous injection」や「subcutaneous tissue」などがよく使われます。日常会話ではほとんど使われません。「cutaneous（皮膚の表面）」とは区別しましょう。
