何かを手に入れたり経験したりする可能性が高いこと、特にある結果について。また、特に軍事や緊急時に備えて待機する意味でも使われます。

主にフォーマルやビジネス、ニュースの文脈で使われます（'stand to gain/lose'など）。軍隊では警戒を指示する命令でもあります。通常は動詞や名詞が後に続きます（'stand to benefit'など）。単なる 'stand' とは区別してください。

If you work hard, you stand to succeed.
